Ryan Adams seems to non-ironically enjoy metal. This of course doesn’t stop some of you vultures from still ragging on the guy’s genuine acoustic tributes of heavy metal classics. Combine that with the leeches who shout for the hits of Bryan Adams and it’s no wonder this guy had to seek therapy. Wow, this post has quickly spiraled into a “leave Ryan alone” trainwreck. Ok but srs Rye rye does a pretty good cover of Iron Maiden‘s “Waster Years” and the response seems to be more or less positive. Still, I gotta kind of steal Ryan’s thunder and remind the world of the best “Wasted Years” cover in existence, namely that done by Damone. Who’s Damone you say? Why, they were a heavy rock band that mixed punk, metal and power pop. I still has many sads from their 2008 break-up. You may also know them from such award-winning musical scores as Freaky Friday, Rugrats Gone Wild and Tony Hawk’s Downhill Jam. If for some reason you aren’t sold yet, listen and be enlightened.
Kudos to Ryan. That was actually pretty dope. And kudos to Deciblog for helping me find this cover. The intimate radio station appearance is a nice touch. Still, Damone blows him out of the water. Their version was honestly the softest track on an otherwise heavy fucking pop metal album, at least that’s where 2006′s Out Here All Night landed on my map. Don’t know what pop metal is? Here’s an idea. I’m actually really pretty depressed that this band broke up. One of the funnest shows I’ve ever been to. Some would say it was the Tequila but they’re wrong. They don’t know what we shared that evening. I’m realizing now that I’m obligated to plead my case before the court for Damone‘s music. I’m in too deep and there is no turning back so I will do so at a later time. I got made fun of for listening to this band by fans of Jack’s Mannequin and will not soon forget it; I will have my revenge in this life or the next. They own “Wasted Years” and maybe, just maybe, have crafted one of the best Maiden covers period.
