Talking about how dope Jeff Loomis is has become almost a weekly thing here. New track “The Surrender” (feat. Ihsahn) is streaming over at Decibel. Go over there and stream that bitch because it is amazing. Then comeback and read the rest of our nonsense. Not to degrade the rest of the tracks on Plains of Oblivion, having not heard them in full and all, the weight of journalistic responsibility hanging heavy on my shoulders, yada yada, but OMG Jeff should totes just do a record or EP with Ihsahn. It would be amazing. Ihsahn is a an incredible, unorthodox composer but his solo work does miss Samoth’s techy riffing from their Emperor days. With Loomis in the fold we could have another IX Equilibrium on our paws. There is also this neat video of Jeff and Joe Nurre (also of Seattle melodeath band Shaded Enmity) jamming new track “Mercurial”.
