I know what you’re thinking. The face of a modern day prophet, no? Well, just when you think MegaDave couldn’t get any more brilliant he goes and does this. On a recent tour stop in Singapore, cool-dad-turned-unstable-dad Dave Mustaine dropped some lines that you just can’t make up. Intrigued? Of course, you are.
In the context of Dave Mustaine’s usual nonsensical blabber, it starts pretty innocently with him berrating the US government. Then things get interesting. Since our nation is turning into “Nazi America”, he continues, he might move to Singapore. Even taking into account the obligatory crowd pandering that all musicans engage in (unless you’re Axl Rose and shitting on the audience is how you show your love), the absurdity here is too hard to pass up. Let’s say for argument’s sake that Dave is right and back in the 40s Stalin fathered a kid with Hitler and then sent it forward in time to crush freedom, rule this country like a king and sacrifice newborns to a shrine of Karl Marx. Ok, fine. So you’re moving to Singapore? Cool. Mind you, this is a country where one party has “won” every election since self-governance in 1959 and prioritizes social welfare over individual liberties like, oh say, freedom of expression. Has this drug fried shell of a bro ever read anything that wasn’t plastered to the wall in front of a venue urinal? Holy christ, man. Is he capable of contextualizing even the most basic concepts?
Fear not, it gets better.
Dave then claims outright that President Obama “staged”, amongst other things, the movie theater shooting in Colorado and the Sikh temple massacre in Wisconsin to justify passing a gun ban. Brilliant. Before even processingthe craziness, one will encounter some amazing apologism. For example, the comment rumblings on Blabbermouth from a few Alex Jones loving nutbags implore us to think about the possibility that Dave just meant the president is using the events as a political platform. Hmm… thought about it. The word “staged” is pretty unambiguous, motherfucker. Moreover, the Obama administration has never pushed for gun regulations and continually sucks NRA lobby wang. Try again.
If it helps, we can get real for a second. As with any world leader, there are plenty of good reasons to criticize Obama, ones that aren’t hard to convert into salient points and thus foster productive conversations. He takes tons of cash from big energy lobbies and wall street, bails out undeserving banks, expands AFRICOM in order to control China’s supply of crude oil and has replaced the Bush era policy of indefinite black site detention with extrajudicial drone assassinations. Yet, anybody who has ever breathed air can tell that this isn’t quite what we have on our hands.
Especially in the case of the Sikh temple shooting, shit like this should be pretty appalling to the families of the victims. These people are the casualties of obviously racist, xenophobic violence. It’s not even that Dave uses his nutspeak to spin some loony web about Obama, you see. It’s that it ignores and marginalizes the fact that segments of our society and of European society are moving further to right wing extremist fringes, sometimes to the point where they are willing to throw down a la Timothy McVeigh. All the while the Department of Homeland Security is busy chasing Islamist spooks.
Yes, he is nuts. Yes, he’s just a band dude. The scary and undeniable fact is a lot of people think like this and will forever ignore the Anders Breviks of the world while saving the T-word for anybody with brown skin.
For comic relief you can LOL at the bro who throws a shoe at Dave and at about the 2:50 mark yells, “Hey, we love Obama”.
